SpillFix Universal Coir Organic Absorbent 15 L

SpillFix Universal Coir Organic Absorbent is an eco-friendly, fast acting, high absorbency coir product for the safe and efficient clean-up of liquid spills. The manufacturer states that it absorbs up to 5 times its own weight in liquid and reaches 90% of its capacity in under 10 minutes.

Coir is a natural and renewable resource, produced as a by-product when coconut husks are processed, and the manufacturer states it is free of chemicals and toxins. The coir is washed, heat treated, screened and graded to a specific absorbent specification before it is packed. It is consistent and uniform in texture and is a homogenous material made up of millions of capillary micro-sponges.

It shows a preference for hydrocarbons such as oil over water, and will remove hydrocarbons from an oil and water emulsion, which makes it suitable for emergency road response. The manufacturer also states that it is a highly stable absorbent that suits a wide range of hazardous spill applications, including acids and caustics, and that the inert media does not react with unstable liquid chemicals.

Disposal

The manufacturer states that the coir has been tested to the USEPA leachate standards for landfill disposal, and that it is biologically stable and free of harmful micro-organisms. When the used absorbent is disposed of, it provides an environment for bio-degrading organisms that can oxidise contaminated waste. Always check disposal requirements with your local authority.
