The Stahlwille 40DL is the long version of the 1/4" drive metric bi-hex socket, 50 mm long in every size from 5 to 14 mm. That is more than double the 23 mm of the standard 40D (manufacturer-stated).
Stahlwille's datasheets call this series the long version, and its 2017 brochure lists it as extra deep. The bi-hex (double hexagon, 12-point) profile carries Stahlwille's AS-Drive (Anti-Slip Drive) form, which the maker says transmits high forces to the flats of nuts and bolts without damaging them. The sockets are HPQ steel, chrome-plated, and Stahlwille specifies hand operation only. The range is listed to DIN EN 3710 / DIN EN 3709 / DIN 3124 / ISO 2725-1 / ASME B 107.5M (manufacturer-stated).

Selecting the right option
Choose the 40DL when reach is the problem and the fastener is metric. The standard-length Stahlwille 40D 1/4" Drive Bi-Hex Sockets is 23 mm long and suits open fasteners. For inch sizes at the same 50 mm length see the Stahlwille 40aDL 1/4" Drive Long Bi-Hex Sockets. If 50 mm is still short, a 1/4" drive extension bar adds reach.
