The Sutton D504 step drill is a spiral flute HSS step drill with a flat shank, supplied here in 4 sizes: 4-12mm (9 steps), 4-20mm (9 steps), 4-30mm (14 steps) and 6-36mm (11 steps). It cuts sheet metal, aluminium, plastic and fibre glass without pre-drilling, and the next step deburrs the hole as it is drilled.
Fixed drilling steps with a spiral flute are designed to reduce vibration and give greater control through the steps. The drill is constructed from M2 high speed steel, designed to give a combination of strength, heat and wear resistance. The flat shank has three flats, which suits 3-jaw chucks.

Using the step drills
- Hold the shank in a 3-jaw chuck, tightening on the flats.
- Drill sheet material without pre-drilling: each step deburrs the hole made by the previous step.
- Keep the material thickness within the maximum cut depth shown in the size table.
