Sutton Tools is an Australian-owned manufacturer of precision cutting tools and threading accessories, supplying tradespeople, engineers, and manufacturing operations across Australia and internationally. Their product range spans taps, dies, drills, endmills, holesaws, and related tooling — all engineered to perform consistently under real industrial conditions. Sutton BSPT (British Standard Pipe Taper — designated R for external, Rc for internal) taps and dies cut a self-sealing tapered pipe thread at 1:16 taper. Like BSPF, BSPT uses the Whitworth thread FORM (55°) at pipe-specific pitches — distinct from BSW and BSF fastener threads.
Where this product is used
Used to cut tapered BSP threads on pipe fittings, valve bodies, and hydraulic connections that require a thread-sealing (interference-fit) joint.
- Cutting BSPT tapered threads in pipe fittings, valve blocks, and cylinder heads where thread engagement alone must provide the primary seal with PTFE tape or thread sealant compound.
- Chasing or repairing worn BSPT threads on cast iron and steel fittings in fluid transfer, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems.
- Cutting external taper threads on pipe ends and nipples using BSPT button dies or die nuts in plumbing, compressed air, and process piping applications.

Selecting the right option
BSPT threads are tapered at 1:16 and seal on thread engagement — confirm you need a tapered (BSPT) rather than parallel (BSPF) thread for your fitting. Match nominal size and TPI to your existing fitting or engineering drawing. For stainless or alloy steel applications, choose HSSE V3 grade; HSS suits mild steel and cast iron.
