Sutton T8200600 M6 x 1.0 Taper Hand Tap, Straight Flute, HSS

The Sutton T820 0600 (T8200600) is an M6 x 1.0 metric coarse straight flute taper hand tap in high speed steel (HSS), with a 3 flute design and ISO 2 / 6H tolerance. It has a square drive and a 5 mm tap drill size.

A taper tap has a gradual lead that helps start the thread square. It is used when the material is difficult to work, such as alloy steel, and is recommended for small diameter threads. The straight flutes suit through and blind holes, and the tap is for general-purpose use in hand or machine operations at depths up to 1 × Ø.

Tapping notes

• Drill the hole to the 5 mm tap drill size first.
• Start the tap square to the hole and turn it forward, backing off regularly to break the chip.
• Use tapping fluid when tapping steel.
• Follow with an intermediate or bottoming tap when the thread must run to the bottom of a blind hole.
