Mitutoyo 155-905 Telescoping Gauge Set, 8-150mm

A telescoping gauge is a transfer gauge. You put it in a hole, bore or groove and let the spring-loaded plunger expand to touch both sides. Lock it with the knurled rotary control on the handle, carefully withdraw it, then measure across the contacts with an outside micrometer or caliper. Machinists, toolrooms and inspectors use it for small holes, bores and grooves.

The range has six gauges: 8 to 12.7mm, 12.7 to 19mm, 19 to 32mm, 32 to 54mm, 54 to 90mm and 90 to 150mm. You can buy a single gauge or the full set of six (155-905), which covers 8 to 150mm. The gauge only passes the size across to your micrometer or caliper, so your result is only as good as that tool. Some feel is needed to make sure you capture the minimum size before you withdraw the gauge.
