Thor TH952FG Black Rubber Mallet, 405 g, 54 mm Face, Fibreglass Handle

Thor black rubber mallets with fibreglass handles come in four sizes, TH952FG, TH953FG, TH954FG and TH957FG: from 405 g (0.9 lb) with a 54 mm face to 1300 g (2.9 lb) with a 90 mm face. Each has a one-piece rubber head on a self-locking handle (manufacturer-stated).

Thor says the black rubber head gives a gentle but firm blow with little rebound (manufacturer-stated). Each fibreglass-handle size is heavier than the wooden-handle size with the same face, for example 675 g for TH953FG against 550 g for TH953.

Common specifications

Key specifications

Weights, face diameters and lengths are per the Thor Product Brochure 2022 (p9). The 2017 range lists lower weights for three of these part numbers (for example 380 g for TH952FG), so the figures here are the newer ones.

Selecting the right option

Choose the face diameter first (54, 64, 74 or 90 mm), then check the weight: the fibreglass versions are heavier than the wooden-handle versions of the same size, so compare the weight column as well as the face size. TH954FG and TH957FG are both 380 mm long. Any striking tool carries some risk, so take care to prevent injury to yourself and damage to the work.
