Thor TH708 Nylon Hammer, 25 mm Face, 250 g, Wood Handle

Thor nylon hammers with a wood handle: TH708 is the smallest of the nylon range with 25 mm faces, and TH720 the largest with 63 mm faces. Both are fitted as standard with screw-in White Nylon faces (manufacturer-stated). Thor says its soft-faced hammers spread the force of a blow and minimise rebound and damage to components (manufacturer-stated).

The heads differ: TH708 has a chrome plated zinc head and TH720 a malleable iron head (manufacturer-stated). TH708 weighs 250 g (0.6 lb) and is 255 mm long; TH720 weighs 2200 g (4.9 lb) and is 355 mm long. Thor says nylon faces have a shoulder for extra strength and prevent fracture from misdirected blows (manufacturer-stated).

Where this product is used

• Multi-purpose striking tool in most assembly applications, including engineering, furniture, partitioning, double glazing and injection moulding dies (manufacturer-stated).
• Striking work where the workpiece must not be marked by metal: the nylon faces are one piece moulded with no metal pegs or inserts to damage the workpiece when worn (manufacturer-stated).

Selecting the right option

The two sizes are far apart: TH708 has a 25 mm face and weighs 250 g, TH720 a 63 mm face and weighs 2200 g, so choose by the size of the part you are striking. Faces are designed to wear and can be replaced by hand; the spare White Nylon faces TH708NF and TH720NF are in the linked face listing. Thor's 2017 range warns: never use these soft-faced hammers as a non-sparking tool in hazardous areas (manufacturer-stated).
