Annular Cutters & Sets
AIMS Industrial sells annular cutters and cutter sets for magnetic base drills (Magdrills) used in structural steel, fabrication, shipbuilding and mining applications. Our range of TCT and HSS annular cutters from Bordo, Euroboor and Alpha covers metric and imperial sizes for Weldon shank and reduced-shank drill compatibility.
Annular Cutter Types
- TCT (tungsten carbide tipped): The standard choice for structural steel — TCT cutters outlast HSS by 10–20× in repeated structural drilling applications.
- HSS annular cutters: Cost-effective for lighter use and occasional structural drilling where TCT longevity is not justified by volume.
- Stainless steel cutters: Dedicated geometry and TiAlN coating for drilling stainless fabrications — standard TCT cutters work-harden stainless and dull rapidly.
- Stepped and combination cutters: Produce a through hole plus a chamfer or counterbore in a single pass — used in structural and fabrication assembly operations.
- Cutter sets: Metric or imperial sets in 12–30 mm ranges packaged in fitted cases — the most efficient way to equip a new magnetic drill base.
Selection and Safety
- Shank type: Confirm Weldon (3/4" or 1" flat) shank compatibility with your magnetic drill chuck before purchasing.
- Pilot pin: Always use a pilot pin for centre location — cutting without a pilot causes cutter wander and poor hole location in structural members.
- Cutting speed and lubricant: Use cutting oil generously and keep RPM below the cutter manufacturer's maximum — heat is the primary cause of premature TCT failure.
- Magnet hold-down: Confirm magnetic base pull force exceeds cutter torque — inadequate hold-down causes catastrophic cutter breakage and injury risk.
