Gates Fleetrunner Micro-V Belt Selection — Quick Reference (Heavy Vehicle Serpentine)

Gates Fleetrunner Micro-V belts are the heavy-vehicle specialist within the Gates Micro-V range — trucks + buses + coaches + heavy plant + agricultural machinery serpentine accessory drives. Higher loads + longer intervals + harsher conditions than passenger-car Micro-V.

Micro-V Section Common AU Use
K-Section (Standard Micro-V) Passenger + light commercial — see standard V-belts
K-Section Fleetrunner (Heavy) Heavy truck + bus + coach serpentine drives
J-Section Light + small-diameter serpentine drives
L-Section Larger industrial serpentine
M-Section Heavy industrial serpentine — largest section
Rib Count (e.g. 6PK, 8PK, 10PK) Number of ribs — match to driven pulley grooves exactly
Belt Length (mm) Per drive geometry — measured around all pulleys

Critical: Fleetrunner Micro-V is NOT interchangeable with passenger-car Micro-V — heavy-vehicle accessory drives have higher loads + longer intervals. Use Fleetrunner spec for trucks + buses + heavy plant. Replacement: ALL accessory drive components (tensioner + idler + belt) should be inspected together — tensioner failure causes premature belt failure. Brand: Gates (Fleetrunner range). Companion: all belts, V-belts, automotive timing belts, V-belt size chart.

Gates Fleetrunner Micro V Belts

AIMS Industrial stocks Gates Fleetrunner Micro-V belts for heavy vehicles — trucks, buses, coaches, heavy plant and agricultural machinery where the accessory drive system uses a multi-ribbed serpentine belt. Gates Fleetrunner is the commercial and heavy-vehicle specialist within the Gates Micro-V range, engineered for the higher loads, longer service intervals and more demanding operating environments of fleet and heavy vehicle applications. Fleetrunner belts are a trusted OE-quality replacement for heavy vehicle manufacturers’ specified belts across a broad range of makes and models.

What is a Micro-V Belt?

A Micro-V belt (also called a multi-ribbed belt, ribbed belt or poly-V belt) uses multiple longitudinal V-shaped ribs running the full length of the belt to drive multiple accessory pulleys from a single serpentine path. This design replaced the multi-belt accessory drives of older vehicles with a single belt driving the alternator, power steering pump, air conditioning compressor, water pump, fan and other accessories simultaneously. Micro-V belts provide higher efficiency, lower vibration and more compact packaging than equivalent multi-belt arrangements.

Gates Fleetrunner EPDM Compound

Gates Fleetrunner belts use EPDM (ethylene propylene diene monomer) rubber compound rather than the neoprene used in older belt formulations. EPDM resists hardening and glazing in cold temperatures, maintains grip across the full operating temperature range, and degrades progressively rather than failing suddenly — critical in a heavy vehicle context where unexpected accessory drive failure can leave a loaded truck stranded. EPDM Fleetrunner belts typically last significantly longer than neoprene-compound equivalents in fleet service conditions.

Application Coverage

Fleetrunner Micro-V belts cover a wide range of heavy vehicle applications including Hino, Isuzu, Fuso, Mercedes-Benz, Volvo, MAN, DAF and Scania truck and bus applications, as well as a broad range of agricultural machinery and construction equipment that uses ribbed serpentine accessory drives. Belt selection requires the correct rib count, belt profile designation and effective length for the specific vehicle and engine variant.

Correct Replacement and Tensioning

Micro-V belts must be replaced with the correct rib count and effective length for the application — fitting an incorrect belt or operating a Micro-V belt with insufficient tension reduces belt life, causes accessory under-performance and can result in early belt failure. On heavy vehicles, a serpentine belt failure can also disable the power steering pump and charging system simultaneously, creating a safety and operational issue in addition to the breakdown itself. Replacing Fleetrunner belts at the vehicle manufacturer’s recommended service interval, and inspecting the tensioner and idler pulleys at each belt change, is best practice for heavy vehicle fleet maintenance.
