Industrial & Workshop Clamps — G-Clamps, C-Clamps, Bar Clamps, Locking Clamps, Plate & Lifting Clamps

A clamp is the workshop and fabrication essential — holding workpieces still for welding, machining, gluing, drilling and assembly; lifting and moving steel plate; securing materials during transport and installation. AIMS Industrial stocks 120+ clamps covering the full range trade and industrial users need — from G-clamp/C-clamp basics through to heavy-duty plate clamps for structural lifting. For a full breakdown of clamp types, sizing and selection, see our Clamp Types Guide.

Workshop & Fabrication Clamps — Quick Reference

  • G-Clamps / C-Clamps — the everyday workshop clamp. G-clamp (Australian/UK) and C-clamp (US) are the same tool — a screw-tightened steel frame for holding workpieces during welding, drilling, gluing, machining. See our C-Clamps.
  • Bar Clamps (F-Clamps) — sliding bar with adjustable head and tail, for clamping over wider gaps than a G-clamp can reach. Faster to set than a G-clamp on varied work. See our Bar Clamps.
  • Locking Clamps — screw-adjusted, over-centre locking jaws (Vise-Grip style). Lock onto the work and stay there hands-free — essential for welding fixturing, sheet metal work and holding parts for grinding. See our Locking Clamps.
  • Spring Clamps — squeeze-grip clamps for light-duty holding (glue-ups, paint masking, sheet metal). Fast on, fast off. See our Spring Clamps.
  • Hold-Down Clamps — toggle-action clamps for jigs, fixtures and machining setups where consistent clamping force is required across multiple cycles. See our Hold-Down Clamps.
  • Cantilever Clamps — for clamping at depth into a workpiece beyond the reach of standard frame clamps. See our Cantilever Clamps.

Industrial Lifting & Rigging Clamps

  • Plate Clamps — Vertical & Horizontal — for lifting flat steel plate and structural sections. Vertical and horizontal lift variants are NOT interchangeable — using the wrong orientation is a serious safety risk. WLL ratings from 1T to 10T+ depending on plate thickness. See our Plate Clamps.
  • Girder Clamps (Beam Clamps) — for attaching chain blocks, electric hoists and pulley blocks to I-beams, RSJ and overhead structural sections. Adjustable jaw width to suit common beam flanges. See our Girder Clamps.
  • Pipe Clamps — for clamping pipe and round bar during welding and fabrication. V-pad and adjustable jaw configurations. See our Pipe Clamps.
  • Magswitch Magnetic Ground Clamps — switchable magnetic clamps for MIG, TIG and MMA welding setups. Place anywhere on the workpiece without bolting or screwing. Not rated for lifting. See our Magswitch range.

Selecting the Right Clamp — Safety & Performance

  • WLL & safety factor — always select a lifting clamp with a Working Load Limit exceeding your maximum load. Australian standards require a minimum 4:1 safety factor. Check the product datasheet before use in a rigging or lifting application.
  • Vertical vs horizontal lift — dedicated vertical and horizontal plate clamps are NOT interchangeable. Wrong orientation = clamp release under load. Confirm lift direction before purchase.
  • Magnetic vs mechanical — Magswitch magnetic clamps are for welding ground and positioning only. Lifting overhead requires mechanical jaw clamps with verified WLL.
  • Jaw opening range — each clamp has a minimum and maximum jaw opening. Confirm your material thickness or beam flange width falls within range.
  • Frame material — drop-forged steel for lifting and structural work; cast iron or aluminium for lighter workshop use.

Brands Stocked at AIMS

  • Austlift — Australian rigging and lifting clamp specialist. Plate clamps (vertical and horizontal), girder clamps with trolley variants, hoist accessories. The workhorse brand for Australian structural and fabrication lifting.
  • Beaver — vertical plate clamps with serrated jaws for positive grip on flat and slightly profiled plate. Range of WLL capacities from light fabrication through to heavy steelwork.
  • Magswitch — switchable magnetic clamping technology for welding ground, positioning and material handling. Australian distributor stock.
  • Garrick — universal plate clamps for general lifting and steel plate handling. Cost-effective option for fabrication shops.
  • Strong Hand — magnetic and mechanical welding clamps, fixturing jigs and workshop positioning aids.
