Countersunk Head Rivets
Countersunk head blind rivets produce a flush or near-flush surface finish when riveting sheet metal panels and fabrications — the countersunk head sits in a pre-drilled or punched countersunk hole, leaving a smooth face rather than the domed head of a standard dome-head rivet. AIMS Industrial stocks countersunk head blind rivets in aluminium and steel for automotive panel, HVAC ductwork, signage and fabrication applications.
When to Use Countersunk Head Rivets
Countersunk rivets are specified when a projecting rivet head would interfere with mating components, create a surface imperfection in a visible panel, or prevent the smooth passage of material over the riveted surface. Common applications include aircraft-style panel joining, automotive body panels and trims, sign faces and display panels where a clean flush surface is required, sliding track components where a projecting head would foul the track, and caravanning and trailer body panels.
Countersink Angle
Standard countersunk rivets are manufactured to 120° or 100° countersink angle — the same standard as the corresponding countersink drill bit or punch. 120° is the most common metric specification; 100° is used in some aerospace and defence applications. Confirming the countersink angle of the rivet against the tooling used to prepare the countersink hole ensures a proper flush seat.
Material Options
Aluminium countersunk rivets are used for most sheet metal panel applications — light, non-magnetic and corrosion-resistant in standard environments. Steel countersunk rivets provide higher shear and tensile strength for structural sheet metal joining where load-bearing is required.
