Countersunk Sleeve Anchor Selection — Quick Reference
Countersunk sleeve anchors = FLUSH-FINISH mechanical fixing for TIMBER + STEEL + ALUMINIUM sections into CONCRETE + masonry. Recessed head sits BELOW surface — no protruding head + clean finish.
| Countersunk Sleeve Anchor | Best For |
|---|---|
| Standard Steel Anchor | Indoor concrete |
| Galvanised Steel | Outdoor + light corrosion |
| 304 / 316 Stainless | Marine + chemical + outdoor |
| Common Diameters (6mm - 16mm) | Light to heavy fastening |
| Various Lengths | Match to substrate + embedment |
| Pre-Drilled Hole Required | Match anchor spec exactly |
Critical: Pre-drill hole DIAMETER + DEPTH match anchor spec exactly. Counterbore TIMBER for flush head. Tighten to spec torque — too loose = no expansion; too tight = damage. Concrete strength ≥ 20 MPa. Companion: concrete anchors, stud anchors, flush head sleeve anchors.
Countersunk Sleeve Anchors
Countersunk sleeve anchors provide a flush-finish mechanical fixing for timber, steel and aluminium sections into concrete, solid brick and blockwork — the countersunk head profile allows the anchor to sit flush with the surface of the fixed material, leaving no projecting head. AIMS Industrial stocks countersunk sleeve anchors in zinc-plated steel and stainless steel for internal and external structural and fitout applications.
How Sleeve Anchors Work
A sleeve anchor is a mechanically expanding concrete anchor — as the nut is tightened on the threaded bolt section, the slotted expansion sleeve is drawn up over the conical mandrel at the base, expanding outward against the walls of the drilled hole. This creates a load-bearing mechanical interlock with the base material that is both reliable and removable. Unlike wedge anchors (which are essentially permanent), sleeve anchors can be removed by backing off the nut, making them suitable for temporary and adjustable fixtures.
Countersunk Head Advantage
The countersunk head is specified when a projecting anchor head would interfere with the fixed component, create a trip hazard, or where appearance demands a flush surface. Typical applications include fixing structural angle and channel to concrete floors and walls where the face of the fixed section must sit flat, floor plates and base brackets where a bolt head below the mating surface would prevent proper seating, and surface-mounted hardware where aesthetic finish is required.
Sizing
Countersunk sleeve anchors are specified by bolt diameter and length — M6, M8, M10, M12 and M16 being the most common metric sizes, with lengths to suit different base material embedment requirements.
