Choosing a cutting wheel

Start with the material. Abrasive wheels are listed for steel, stainless steel (Inox), aluminium, stone and rail, while diamond blades suit tile, porcelain, stoneware, concrete and asphalt. Then match the machine: angle grinder, stationary chop saw, high speed portable saw or engine-driven machine. Check the diameter and bore against your tool and its guard, and use a reduction ring where the bore needs reducing. Always check the data sheet for the maximum operating speed, material suitability and handling and storage requirements before you buy.

Cutting Wheels FAQs

What is the difference between an abrasive cutting wheel and a diamond blade?

An abrasive wheel cuts with bonded abrasive grain and is listed for materials such as steel, stainless steel, aluminium, stone and rail. A diamond blade uses diamond segments or a diamond rim, and the listings here are for tile, porcelain, stoneware, concrete and asphalt. Check the listing for the material and machine.

Which cutting wheel should I use for stainless steel?

Look for wheels listed for stainless steel or Inox. Pferd, Flexovit, Klingspor and Dymaxion all list wheels for stainless, including ultra thin options. Check the data sheet to confirm it suits your material and machine.

Which diamond blade suits concrete or tile?

The Klingspor angle grinder blades are listed by material, including tile, stoneware, porcelain and concrete, and Norton and Pferd list segmented, turbo and continuous styles. Call (02) 9773 0122 and we'll help you pick one.
