Choosing a hook
Start with the job. Snap and spring hooks give a quick, secure connection with a gated opening, S hooks link chain and rope, and tie-down hooks fit the ends of straps and chains used to restrain loads on vehicles and trailers. For wet or marine environments, stainless steel finishes resist corrosion better than zinc, and 316 is listed for the marine-style products.
Check the size against the eye, ring or rope you are connecting to, and the load against the rated capacity shown for the product. Where the load rating is listed in the title (for example 600kg or 2200kg LC on the tie-down hooks), use it. Hooks for lifting loads are in our lifting hooks collection.
Always check the data sheet. Confirm the working load or breaking strength, size and suitability for your application before use, and do not use general-purpose hooks for overhead lifting unless they are rated for it.

Hook FAQs
What is the difference between a snap hook and a spring hook?
Both have a spring-loaded gate that closes the opening. Snap hooks are available in several styles, including triple action versions with a gate that needs more than one movement to open. Check the product listing for the style and finish you need.
Which hooks are stainless steel?
We list 304 and 316 stainless steel hooks, including S hooks, snap hooks, spring hooks, a pelican hook, a carbine eye hook and a ceiling hook. 316 is the better choice for marine and wet environments.
Do you have hooks for tie-down straps?
Yes. Austlift tie-down hooks include J hooks, flat hooks, an E hook and a butterfly hook for truck fittings, and a hook sized for a 38mm ratchet buckle. Load ratings are shown in the product titles where listed.
