Complete Wire Rope and Chain Rigging Systems with Quality Fittings from Beaver and Austlift

Wire rope and chain fittings are the hardware that assembles, terminates and connects wire rope and chain into working lifting and rigging systems — clips, ferrules, swage sleeves and thimbles that form the terminations at each end of a wire rope sling, and connectors, master links, grab hooks and coupling links that join chain assemblies to loads and lifting equipment.

Every fitting in a rigging system must be correctly specified, installed and inspected — an undersized or incorrectly fitted wire rope clip can fail at a fraction of its rated load, turning a safe sling into a hazard.

AIMS Industrial sells wire rope and chain fittings from Beaver and Austlift — established rigging and lifting hardware brands supplying the construction, mining, marine and industrial sectors across Australia.

The Wire Rope & Chain Fittings Range

Our product range covers wire rope and chain rigging hardware in galvanised steel, stainless steel and alloy steel across a comprehensive range of rope diameters and chain sizes.

  • Wire Rope Clips (Bulldog Grips): Beaver and Austlift supply wire rope clips (also called bulldog grips or U-bolt clips) for forming wire rope terminations and eye splices in the field. Wire rope clips must be correctly sized to the rope diameter, installed with the U-bolt on the dead end, and tightened to the correct torque in sequence. Minimum three clips per termination is the standard for most lifting applications.
  • Ferrules and Swage Sleeves: Aluminium and steel ferrules are swaged (crimped) onto wire rope using a swaging tool to form factory-quality eye terminations in the field. Swaged ferrule terminations are stronger than clip terminations and are the preferred method where the rope will be permanently assembled.
  • Wire Rope Thimbles: Thimbles are teardrop-shaped steel inserts fitted inside a wire rope eye to protect the rope from the concentrated bearing stress of a shackle pin or hook. Always use a thimble in wire rope eyes that will be attached to a shackle, hook or ring — a bare rope eye will deform and weaken under load.
  • Chain Connectors and Master Links: Chain fittings include master links, connecting links, coupling links, grab hooks and shortening clutches for assembling, connecting and adjusting chain sling legs. All chain hardware must be rated to the same grade as the chain in use — Grade 80 hardware for Grade 80 chain; Grade 100 hardware for Grade 100 chain.

Selecting the Right Wire Rope and Chain Fittings

Rigging hardware selection must match the rope or chain diameter, the material specification (galvanised, stainless or alloy) and the working load limit required.

  • Match to Rope Diameter: All wire rope fittings are specified by the rope diameter they suit. Using an oversized clip on a smaller rope produces insufficient clamping force; an undersized clip cannot be properly tightened. Always select fittings rated to the exact rope diameter in use.
  • Galvanised vs Stainless Steel: Galvanised fittings suit inland and protected applications. Stainless steel fittings are required for marine, coastal and food-grade environments where corrosion resistance is critical.
  • Working Load Limit: Always verify the WLL of every fitting in the rigging system against the maximum expected load, with appropriate safety factor. The WLL of the complete assembly is limited by the lowest-rated component.
