Choosing a winch
Start with the job: titles say whether a winch is for pulling or for lifting and pulling, and these are not interchangeable, so check that the rating matches how you'll use it. For truck winches, choose the mounting style (clip on, slide on or gate type), then whether you want a bare winch or one supplied with strap or webbing, and check the capacity quoted in the listing. For hand winches, the range includes brake and non-brake models, a noiseless model and a stainless steel boat winch. For electric models, check whether you need single phase or three phase.
