KCM

KCM Roller Chain Range — Quick Reference (BS + ASA)

KCM = reliable industrial roller chain brand supplied across drive + conveyor applications. AIMS stocks KCM roller chain in both BRITISH STANDARD (BS) + AMERICAN STANDARD (ASA) simplex configurations + connecting links + offset (crank) links + stainless variants for repair + assembly. Manufactured to ISO 606 / BS 228 (BS) + ANSI B29.1 / ASME B29.100 (ASA).

KCM Chain Type Best For
BS Simplex (06B / 08B / 10B / 12B / 16B / 20B) British standard pitch — common AU + European drives
ASA Simplex (40 / 50 / 60 / 80 / 100 / 120) American standard pitch — US-origin + automotive
BS Duplex / Triplex Higher load + redundancy in critical drives
ASA Duplex / Triplex Higher capacity ASA pitch chains
Connecting Links (Spring / Cotter) Joining chain ends + maintenance
Offset / Crank Links Odd-length adjustment — single-pitch offset
Stainless 304 / 316 Variants Food + marine + corrosive + chemical
Self-Lubricating Variants Difficult-to-lubricate installations

Critical: BS and ASA chains are NOT INTERCHANGEABLE — pitch differs. BS 06B pitch = 9.525mm; ASA 40 pitch = 12.7mm. Specify pitch + chain type when sizing. Stretching > 3% = chain replacement (worn + sprocket damage). Match sprocket teeth to chain pitch + width. Brand: KCM. Companion: roller chain, chain + sprockets, sprockets, roller chain guide.

KCM Roller Chain — British Standard & American Standard Simplex

KCM is a reliable industrial roller chain brand supplied across a wide range of drive and conveyor applications. AIMS Industrial stocks KCM roller chain in both British Standard (BS) and American Standard (ASA) simplex configurations, along with connecting links, offset (crank) links and stainless variants for repair and assembly. Manufactured to ISO 606 / BS 228 (BS chain) and ANSI B29.1 / ASME B29.100 (ASA chain) dimensional standards.

BS vs ASA roller chain — which standard?

British Standard (BS) chain — used across Commonwealth-specified Australian, UK and European machinery — is identified by pitch in millimetres and inches (e.g. 08B = 1/2" pitch). American Standard (ASA / ANSI) chain — used across imported US machinery, mining equipment and many Australian OEM products — is identified by ANSI number (e.g. 40 = 1/2" pitch). The pitch values can be identical but the side-plate and roller dimensions differ — BS and ASA chains are NOT interchangeable on the same sprocket. Always confirm which standard the existing drive uses before ordering replacement chain.

KCM range we stock

  • KCM BS roller chain simplex — standard steel, supplied in 10-foot boxes
  • KCM ASA roller chain simplex — standard steel, supplied in 10-foot boxes
  • KCM BS connecting links — for joining BS roller chain to length
  • KCM ASA connecting links — for joining ASA chain to length
  • KCM BS offset / half (crank) links — for chain length fine adjustment where a full pitch is too long
  • KCM BS stainless connecting links — for corrosive environments and washdown service

Chain selection & maintenance

Roller chain capacity is a function of pitch, breaking load, hp/kW rating at design rpm, and service factor for the application class. For background on choosing between belt and chain drives — when each is the better engineering choice — see our belt vs chain drives guide. For chain drive tensioning best practice (over-tight is the most common cause of premature chain wear), see our chain tensioner guide.
