Industrial Roller Chain for Australian Power Transmission

Roller chain is the workhorse drive component of Australian industrial power transmission — driving conveyors, agricultural machinery, packaging lines, and machine tools through positive engagement that doesn't slip under load. AIMS Industrial supplies roller chain across the standard ANSI and British Standard pitches, with Tsubaki as the preferred premium brand and Boston covering the broader range. The matching sprockets, master links, and chain accessories are stocked alongside.

The chain pitches we stock

  • ANSI series — 25, 35, 40, 50, 60, 80, 100, 120, 140, 160 pitches (the dominant chain standard in Australia)
  • British Standard (BS) — 06B, 08B, 10B, 12B, 16B, 20B, 24B pitches (also widely specified)
  • Single strand — the everyday choice for most industrial drives
  • Double strand — twice the load capacity in the same envelope
  • Triple strand — for heavy-duty drives where higher power transmission is needed
  • Heavy-series chain — extra-strong link plates for shock and high-load applications

Why Tsubaki

Tsubaki is AIMS's preferred premium brand for roller chain — Japanese engineering and manufacturing consistency that delivers longer service life and tighter dimensional tolerances than budget alternatives. For industrial drives where downtime is expensive, the cost difference between Tsubaki and budget chain typically pays back in extended replacement intervals and reduced maintenance.

Sizing chain — pitch and roller specifications

Chain pitch is the centre-to-centre distance between adjacent pin holes — this is the fundamental dimension that determines compatibility with sprockets. Roller diameter and inner link width must also match — chain and sprockets must be from the same series. Don't try to mix ANSI chain on BS sprockets or vice versa; the geometries are different and the chain won't run properly.

Where roller chain earns its place

  • Industrial conveyors — drive and product handling chains for material movement
  • Agricultural machinery — combine harvesters, balers, and other equipment with chain drives
  • Packaging and food processing — line drive chains and product handling
  • Machine tools — auxiliary drives and feed chains
  • Mining and construction — chain drives in heavy-duty applications

Lubrication and maintenance

Roller chain life depends on lubrication. Drip oilers, gravity-feed reservoirs, or periodic manual application of chain lube keep the rollers and pins running freely. Dry chain wears rapidly and stretches in service — symptoms include "chain rise" on smaller sprockets, increasing noise, and visible elongation when measured against a fresh chain. Replace chain that has elongated more than 1-2% of original pitch (typically beyond 1% for precision drives and 2% for general industrial).

Master links and chain accessories

Roller chain is supplied in standard 10ft (3.05m) lengths or in continuous bulk reels, with master links for joining and shortening. Master links must match the chain pitch and series. Connector links, offset links, and chain breakers are stocked for installation and servicing.
