Create Strong Threaded Fastening Points in Thin Materials with Rivet Nuts
Rivet nuts — also called nutserts, rivnuts or blind nuts — are internally threaded fasteners installed into pre-drilled holes from one side, creating a permanent threaded fastening point in sheet metal, aluminium, plastic and other thin-wall materials where access to the reverse side is not possible or practical. They’re the engineered solution for adding M4 through M12 threaded connections to chassis panels, enclosures, equipment covers and fabricated assemblies without welding or tapping thin material. AIMS Industrial stocks 17 rivet nut products from Champion, Trax and Inox World.
We sell rivet nuts from Champion, Trax and Inox World — fastener and industrial hardware specialists supplying fabricators, engineers and maintenance operations across Australia.
The Rivet Nuts Range
Our 17-product range covers aluminium, zinc-plated steel and 304 stainless steel rivet nuts in standard and large flange configurations, plus assortment kits.
- Champion: Champion supplies multipele rivet nut products including the CA506 Rivet Nut Aluminium Assortment Kit, ARN Rivet Nut Insert Aluminium and Cross Rivet Nut variants. Champion’s aluminium rivet nuts are ideal for lightweight applications where host material is aluminium or thin-gauge steel and a non-ferrous insert is preferred to avoid galvanic corrosion. The CA506 assortment kit provides a practical range of sizes for workshop stock.
- Trax: Trax supplies rivet nut products including M6 Flush Replacement Blind Nuts. Trax’s rivet nuts are designed for automotive, fabrication and light engineering applications where a clean, flush-profile installation is required on visible panels or assemblies.
- Inox World: Inox World supplies rivet nut products including Right Hand Thread Rivet Nut Large Flange in 304 Stainless Steel. Stainless steel rivet nuts are specified for marine, food processing, coastal and chemical environments where standard steel or aluminium inserts would corrode in service. The large flange variant distributes clamping load over a greater bearing area, improving pull-out resistance in thin or soft host materials.
Choosing the Right Rivet Nut
Rivet nut selection depends on the host material, the thread size required, access conditions and the service environment.
- Material: Aluminium rivet nuts are used in aluminium and thin steel sheet where reduced weight and galvanic compatibility are priorities. Steel (zinc plated) rivet nuts are the standard choice for most steel fabrication applications. Stainless steel rivet nuts (Inox World) are specified for corrosive or food-grade environments.
- Standard vs Large Flange: Large flange rivet nuts have a wider bearing flange that distributes the installation load over a larger area — important in thin or soft materials (aluminium, plastics, composite panels) where a standard flange can pull through or deform the host material under load.
- Installation Tooling: Rivet nuts require a dedicated rivet nut tool (hand or pneumatic) to install correctly. The mandrel threads into the rivet nut, and pulling the tool expands and deforms the rivet nut body against the reverse face of the host material, locking it in place. Using the correct tool ensures consistent installation and prevents damage to the rivet nut or host material.
