PSA disc diameter must match the sander backing pad. Common sizes include 125mm (5 inch) and 150mm (6 inch) for orbital sanders, with smaller 75mm and 100mm sizes for detail work and smaller machines. Match the dust extraction hole pattern (5-hole, 6-hole, 8-hole, multi-hole) to the sander's pad pattern — mismatched holes block dust extraction and reduce sanding efficiency.

Pad preparation between disc changes

PSA disc adhesive can leave residue on the backing pad after disc removal. For consistent disc grip across multiple changes, clean the pad with a pad-cleaning eraser or rub between hands to remove residue before fitting a new disc. Heavily contaminated pads cause new discs to lift during sanding — replace the pad rather than struggling with poor disc adhesion.
