Crimping practice

Quality crimps require the right tool for the terminal type. Insulated terminals need ratcheting crimping pliers with the matching die set; uninsulated terminals need different jaws. Wire ferrules need ferrule-specific crimping pliers (typically four-indent or hexagonal jaw). Strip the cable to the terminal's barrel length, insert fully into the terminal, crimp with the matching tool. The crimp should compress the barrel onto the cable strands without crushing through the insulation. Pull-test the connection to verify mechanical retention.
