Choosing a dial indicator, bore gauge or stand
Start with the range and graduation you need. The listings give the range (for example 0-1/2 inch or 0-10mm) and, on many, the graduation (such as 0.01mm), so match these to the tolerance you're checking. A dial indicator reads plunger movement in line with its spindle, while a dial test indicator has a pivoting lever and stylus for tighter set-ups. Both normally need a stand or fixture, so check the indicator stem against the stand's stem holes. Imperial and metric versions are listed separately.
Always check the data sheet for accuracy, stem size, mounting and included accessories before you order, and call us if you'd like help matching an indicator, gauge and stand.

Dial Indicators & Zero Setters FAQs
What's the difference between a dial indicator and a dial test indicator?
A dial indicator has a plunger that reads movement in line with its spindle. A dial test indicator has a pivoting lever and stylus, which suits tighter set-ups. This range includes both, so check the listing for the range and stylus before you order.
Do I need a stand for a dial indicator?
Most indicators need to be held in a stand or fixture. This range includes a Mitutoyo magnetic stand and a dial gauge stand with 8mm and 9.53mm stem holes, so check that your indicator's stem fits. Call us if you'd like help matching them.
Can I get dial indicators in both metric and imperial?
Yes. Dasqua lists imperial (0-1/2, 0-1 and 0-2 inch) and metric (0-10 to 0-100) dial indicators, and Mitutoyo lists its Series 2 long stroke type in both imperial and metric.
