Choosing adhesives, sealants and tapes

Start with the job: locking a fastener, sealing a thread or flange, fixing a bearing or bush, bonding two surfaces, repairing a part or floor, or taping. Then check the materials you are joining, because adhesives and sealants are listed for particular materials, and the product page shows what each one is supplied for. Check the pack size, the colour or grade in the product title, and the data sheet for cure time, working temperature and the surface preparation needed, as these vary by product. Clean surfaces first, and use a primer or activator only where the data sheet calls for one. Our guides cover the main decisions: adhesive types, thread locking and sealing, Loctite threadlockers, Loctite retaining compounds, Loctite thread sealants, RTV silicone gasket makers, epoxy adhesives and double sided tape. Always check the product page for the specification and application before you order.

Adhesives, Sealants & Tapes FAQs

What adhesives, sealants and tapes does AIMS Industrial list?

Threadlockers, retaining compounds, thread and pipe sealants, gasket sealants and silicone, instant and structural adhesives, epoxy putties and repair compounds, primers and activators, expanding foam and a range of tapes, from brands including Loctite, Devcon, Epirez, CRC, GSA and OSI.

What is the difference between a threadlocker, a retaining compound and a thread sealant?

A threadlocker is used on threaded fasteners, a retaining compound on cylindrical fits such as bearings and bushes, and a thread sealant on pipe threads. Our thread locking and sealing guide explains the differences, and the product page shows what each one is supplied for.

How do I choose between instant adhesive, epoxy and structural adhesive?

It depends on the materials, the gap and the strength you need. Check the product page and data sheet, and see our adhesive types guide and epoxy guide. Call us on (02) 9773 0122 with the job and we'll help.

Do I need a primer or activator?

Only where the data sheet for your adhesive calls for one. Primers and activators are listed in their own collection, and the data sheet shows which materials they suit.

What does cure time or shelf life mean for my product?

Cure time and shelf life vary by product. Check the data sheet and the date on the container before you use it.

Can I get a quote for a larger order?

Yes. Request a quote or call us on (02) 9773 0122 with the products and quantities you need and we'll check what we can supply.
