Choosing an Adhesive Remover
Match the product to the residue
Label and sticker removers are the gentle option for price labels, asset tags and tape glue. Stuff Off is a stronger product that also removes paint, so use it where the surface can take it. The gasket stripper is for removing old gasket and sealant from machined faces before you fit a new gasket or sealant. See Gasket Sealants for what goes back on.
Method
Apply the product, give it the dwell time on the label, then lift the residue with a plastic scraper rather than a metal one so you don't mark the surface. Wipe the area clean and degrease it if you are going to bond or seal it afterwards. Use in a ventilated area, away from ignition sources, and wear gloves and eye protection.

People Also Ask — Adhesive Removers
How do I remove sticker or label residue?
Apply a label remover such as CRC 3352 Peel Off or 3-IN-ONE Sticker Remover, wait for the dwell time on the label, then lift the softened residue with a plastic scraper and wipe clean.
Will adhesive remover damage paint or plastic?
It can. Solvent-based products can soften or mark some paints, plastics and rubbers, so test on a small hidden spot first and read the label.
How do I remove an old gasket?
Use a gasket stripper such as CRC Aerosol Gasket Stripper, which is made to be used on aluminium, steel and brass. Soften the old material, scrape it off carefully so you don't gouge the face, and clean the surface before refitting.
Can I use a metal scraper?
A plastic scraper is safer on most surfaces. Metal scrapers can scratch painted or machined faces.
What safety precautions do adhesive removers need?
Many are flammable. Use them in a ventilated area, away from ignition sources, and wear gloves and eye protection. Follow the safety data sheet.
