Choosing a hex power bit

Start with the tip size and drive: check the hex size of the screw, then the shank or drive the bit needs (most are 1/4 inch hex, while the larger Ko-Ken Inhex bits and the Bondhus socket bits suit socket drives). Use bits listed as impact bits in an impact driver. Ball-end bits let you work at an angle, and straight-tip bits give full contact on the screw. Security (post hex) bits are for screws with a centre pin. Length matters for recessed screws, with listings from about 25 mm to 150 mm. Always check the data sheet for the tip size, drive and length before ordering.

Hex Power Bit FAQs

What is a hex power bit?

It is a driver bit with a hex (Allen-style) tip, used in a drill, impact driver or driver handle to run hex socket screws. Most have a 1/4 inch hex shank, so they fit standard bit holders.

Should I choose a ball-end or straight hex bit?

A ball-end tip lets you drive a screw at an angle, which helps in tight spots. A straight tip seats fully in the socket, which suits driving and removing tight screws square-on. Both are in the range.

Can I use these in an impact driver?

Use bits listed as impact bits in an impact driver. The Alpha, Sutton and Ko-Ken ranges include impact versions, so check the product title and data sheet.
