2 in (50 mm) Viton Wafer Butterfly Valve | VWV50

This AAP Viton wafer butterfly valve has a cast iron body, an SS316 disc, a Viton seat and a lever. It is supplied in 4 sizes from 2 in (50 mm) to 6 in (150 mm).

A butterfly valve turns a disc on a central stem through a quarter turn: with the disc in line with the flow the valve is open, and turned across the flow it is closed. The resilient seat is the soft liner the disc seals against. AAP says its resilient seat butterfly valves are compact, give bubble tight shut-off and have good regulating capabilities, and lists them for HVAC, petrochemical, pulp and paper, water and wastewater treatment, brewing, food processing, mining, textile and general industry (manufacturer-stated).

AAP says the wafer body suits most international flanges, including AS 2129, BS 10, ANSI, DIN and JIS, in sizes 50 mm to 300 mm (manufacturer-stated). It is made for inline service and relies on a flange on each side of the valve to hold it in the pipeline.

AAP does not state a working pressure for its wafer butterfly valves in the catalogue, although it gives operating torque at PN16. Ask AIMS to confirm the pressure rating for your job before you order.

The seat is Viton (FPM). AAP gives Viton a temperature of 150 degrees C, says it is generally resistant to all aliphatic, aromatic and halogenated hydrocarbons, acids, and animal and vegetable oils and is generally affected or attacked by ketones, low molecular weight esters and nitro containing compounds (all manufacturer-stated). The seat temperature is a material figure, not a valve rating, so ask AIMS for the pressure and temperature rating if the valve will run hot.

AAP lists its Watermark approval against the 50 mm to 300 mm EPDM version only, so it does not cover this seat material. If you need a drinking water approval, ask AIMS about the EPDM valve and for the current certificate.

AAP gives one operating torque per size at PN16 and does not say which seat material it applies to, so allow a margin when you size an actuator.

Dimensions are in mm and use the letters in AAP's catalogue, which does not define them. L is the face-to-face length. Check the drawing in the attached catalogue section. AAP also lists a 3 in (VWV80) and an 8 in (VWV98) in this range, so ask AIMS if you need a size that is not shown.

Selecting the right option

Choose the size to match your pipe, and choose wafer or lugged to suit how the valve will be mounted. Check the seat material against your fluid and temperature using the seat material guide on this page. A lever suits on and off duty. For fine regulation AAP says to use a gear operator, because levers and notch plates only have 10 position settings.
