Black Rat 4WD Off Road Recovery Snatch Block, 8,000 kg MBS, to 11 mm Rope (514125B)

The Black Rat 4WD off road recovery snatch block, code 514125B, is a sheave block made for off road winch recovery. Black Rat's data sheet says it has two heavy duty steel cover plates with a zinc passivated (gold) finish that open for easy insertion of the wire rope, sheaves made from high grade cast iron that are precision machine grooved to take wire rope up to a maximum of 11 mm, a pressure grease lubrication bearing on one side, and an R type retaining pin, supplied in a vinyl storage pouch (manufacturer-stated).

The data sheet gives a minimum breaking strain (MBS) of 8,000 kg, a weight of 3.8 kg and a pack quantity of 1, and says it can retrieve loads that are double the winch capacity and be used with hand or electric winches (manufacturer-stated). The MBS is a breaking figure, not a working load limit.

Black Rat's guide on the data sheet says a snatch block can change the direction of the winch cable and increase pulling power, and describes rigging it from an anchor point directly in front of the winch, using a tree trunk protector or sling and a Grade S shackle, with a recovery damper in case of overload (manufacturer-stated). Recovery gear should be matched to the vehicles and the job, inspected before every use, and not used if it is cut, frayed, worn or damaged. Keep people well clear of any recovery that is under load, and follow the manufacturer's instructions. If you are not sure what suits your recovery, ask AIMS before you order. Check that your wire rope is no more than 11 mm and that the winch, anchor point, shackle and tree trunk protector or sling are rated for the pull. Use a recovery damper and keep people well clear while the line is under load.
