CRC Evapo-Rust Ready To Use 5L

CRC Evapo-Rust is a rust remover for mild steel and iron. This listing holds two different CRC products: the 500g Evapo-Rust Spray Gel, which clings to surfaces without soaking or disassembling the item, and the Evapo-Rust Ready To Use soak liquid in 1L and 5L packs.

Selecting the right option

After treatment, CRC's Spray Gel data sheet suggests coating with CRC Zinc It, CRC Metal Armour, CRC Long Life or similar.

Using it

Ready To Use liquid (CRC): pre-clean if dirty or oily. Rinse the item and immerse it completely. Soak until the rust is removed, at least 30 minutes for light rust and 12 to 24 hours for stubborn rust. Use at 18°C and above; below 18°C treatment times are longer. Rinse with water and dry immediately, then spray the item with CRC Evapo-Rust Rust-Block to prevent flash rust.

Spray Gel (CRC): pre-clean if dirty or oily and remove loose rust scale. Mask the surrounding area. Do not use in direct sunlight; the metal should be cool to touch. Shake the can well and apply a heavy coat. For optimal results allow 2 to 3 hours before gel removal. A white film may appear; scrub it off with a hard brush and water. Rinse the gel off with water and dry. Avoid letting the gel dry on the surface.

CRC says the Spray Gel may cause staining on some materials, so test on a small inconspicuous area first, including decorative or polished surfaces.

Storage and handling

Spray Gel is a pressurised aerosol: do not expose it to temperatures exceeding 50°C and protect it from sunlight (SDS). Ready To Use liquid: replace the lid after use.

Limits and safety

Spray Gel (500g): Warning. Pressurised container that may burst if heated (H229), skin irritation (H315) and serious eye irritation (H319). UN 1950, Aerosols, Class 2.2, dangerous goods. CRC says it is not suitable for anodized materials, may remove oxidation from aluminium and may stain some materials.
