CRC 3-36 Instant Protection From Rust & Corrosion 300g

CRC 3-36 is a rust and corrosion preventive made from multiple organic inhibitors in a paraffinic oil base. CRC says it displaces and seals out moisture and leaves a clear, thin, non-drying film that penetrates cracks and pores. It is listed here as a 300g aerosol and a 20L drum.

CRC lists it for process manufacturing, machining and maintenance, and says the film does not have to be removed before welding, machining or process manufacturing. The two formats have different safety classifications, shown below.

Selecting the right option

For assemblies going into extended storage or shipping, CRC lists CRC Aerosol Soft Seal Long Term Protection For Metal Surfaces 300g. To remove the film, CRC names CRC Brakleen Non Chlorinated Brake & Parts Cleaner 400g and CRC Lectra Clean.

Using it

CRC's directions: to protect metals, spray a light, even film. To loosen rusting parts, spray liberally on all surfaces and allow it to run off.

For equipment submerged in water, spray liberally on every surface and allow 2 to 24 hours for the water to be displaced. Flush salt or dirty water off before spraying. Repeat the application if necessary.

When cleaning surfaces, CRC says to test a small area first for colour fastness.

Storage and handling

Aerosol: protect from sunlight, do not expose to temperatures exceeding 50°C, and do not pierce or burn the can.

Limits and safety

300g aerosol: Warning. Flammable aerosol (H223), pressurised container that may burst if heated (H229), and repeated exposure may cause skin dryness or cracking. UN 1950, Aerosols, Class 2.1. 20L drum: Danger. Combustible liquid (H227) and aspiration hazard that may be fatal if swallowed and enters airways (H304); not classified as dangerous goods.
