CRC Aerosol Soft Seal Long Term Protection For Metal Surfaces 300g

CRC Soft Seal is a long term indoor/outdoor corrosion inhibitor for machined metal surfaces and assemblies in storage or shipping. It comes in a 300g aerosol with a hydrocarbon propellant and dries to a transparent, waxy amber film.

CRC's data sheet says the film seals out moisture and corrosive contaminants and is highly resistant to salt water and salt spray, with outdoor protection for up to 2 years. The safety data sheet classifies it as a flammable aerosol, so read the hazard details below before use.

Using it

CRC's directions: de-energise equipment and shake the can well. Mask any areas that are not to be sprayed. Spray from 30 to 35cm in light, even coats, allowing each coat to dry before adding another.

After use, clear the valve by inverting the can and pressing the actuator until only propellant escapes.

To remove the film, use CRC Brakleen or mineral spirits (aliphatic petroleum solvents). CRC says not to use it on energised equipment.

Storage and handling

Do not puncture, incinerate or store above 50°C. CRC notes that aerosol cans conduct electricity, so keep away from live electrical sources. The SDS (revision 3.7) also advises storing in a cool, dry, well ventilated area and below 40°C.

The SDS classifies it as a flammable aerosol (H223), a pressurised container that may burst if heated (H229), a skin irritant (H315), a cause of drowsiness or dizziness (H336) and a cause of damage to organs through prolonged or repeated exposure (H372).
