CRC Non Silicone Food Grade Penetrating Oil 312g
Available
CRC Food Grade Penetrating Oil is a low viscosity penetrant in a 312g aerosol. CRC designed it to quickly loosen and free seized, bound or frozen fasteners on food processing equipment. The low surface tension formula creeps into cracks, seams, threads and joints.
CRC's data sheet lists it as NSF H1 registered for incidental food contact and as non silicone, with a corrosion inhibiting lubricating residue. The safety data sheet classifies it as a flammable aerosol with an aspiration hazard (H304), so read the hazard details below before use.
Where this product is used
- Loosening and freeing seized, bound or frozen fasteners on food processing equipment
- Loosening rusted and corroded nuts, bolts, couplings, fittings, hinges and frozen components
- Easing the disassembly of plant machinery, tools and equipment for routine maintenance and emergency repairs
Features
- NSF H1 registered for incidental food contact (CRC data sheet; NSF registration No. 164663)
- Low viscosity, low surface tension formula that creeps into cracks, seams, threads and joints
- Corrosion inhibiting lubricating residue
- Non silicone, which CRC says will not harm paint, plastic or wood surfaces and allows treated surfaces to be repainted
- 360 degree valve: CRC says the can can be sprayed from any position, even upside down
- Carbon dioxide propellant

Selecting the right option
For general penetrating needs without a food processing requirement, see CRC Penetr8 High Speed Penetrant. For a food grade machine lubricant see CRC Food Grade Machine Oil 312g.
Using it
CRC's directions: do not apply while equipment is energised. Spray directly on the corroded fasteners and allow the oil to seep between the joints and surfaces, tapping the joints lightly to help. Loosen or remove the fastener.
If the fastener does not release, repeat the spray and tap steps until it breaks free. CRC says severely frozen or welded fasteners may require a power tool or nut cracker.
Storage and handling
Do not puncture, incinerate or store above 50°C. CRC notes that aerosol cans conduct electricity, so keep away from live electrical sources.
Limits and safety
Signal word Danger. The SDS classifies it as a flammable aerosol (H223), a pressurised container that may burst if heated (H229), an aspiration hazard that may be fatal if swallowed and enters airways (H304), a skin irritant (H315) and a cause of drowsiness or dizziness (H336). Transport: UN 1950, Aerosols, Class 2.1. Do not apply while equipment is energised. Read the safety data sheet before use.
Frequently asked questions
Is CRC Food Grade Penetrating Oil NSF H1 registered?
CRC's data sheet states NSF H1 Registered for incidental food contact. The NSF letter dated 27/07/21 shows Registration No. 164663, Category Code H1.
What is the temperature range of CRC Food Grade Penetrating Oil?
CRC gives -20°C to +150°C continuous and +170°C intermittent.
What is the flash point of CRC Food Grade Penetrating Oil?
70°C for the liquid component, per CRC's data sheet and safety data sheet. The aerosol itself is classified as a flammable aerosol (H223).
What propellant does it use?
Carbon dioxide.
Can I spray it on energised equipment?
No. CRC's directions say not to apply it while equipment is energised.
Is CRC Food Grade Penetrating Oil safe to swallow or breathe?
No. The SDS classifies it with an aspiration hazard (H304, may be fatal if swallowed and enters airways) and H336 (may cause drowsiness or dizziness). Read the safety data sheet before use.
