CRC Rust Converter, Fast Drying 250ml

CRC Rust Converter chemically neutralises light-to-moderate surface rust and converts it into a stable, black, paintable primer coat in one step — no sandblasting, grinding or wire-brushing back to bare metal required.

Key specifications

Directions for use

1. Remove blistered paint, loose paint and heavy rust scale with a scraper or mechanical sander
2. Degrease and remove dirt, oil and other contaminants — a degreaser such as CRC Brakleen works well for this step
3. Mask the surrounding area and wear rubber gloves
4. Shake well (aerosol) or stir before use, then apply a heavy, even coat — a second coat can go on once the first is dry if needed
5. Allow full cure before overcoating: 4 hours for the 425g aerosol, 12 hours for the liquid packs
6. Prime and seal with CRC Metal Armour for maximum long-term protection before topcoating

Important limitations

Rust Converter is built for light-to-moderate surface rust — it will not stop heavy rust scale from continuing to corrode underneath, and it is not a rust-preventative coating for bare, unrusted steel. It is not suitable for non-ferrous metals, stainless steel or galvanised surfaces. Zinc-based coatings such as CRC Zinc It need bare steel to bond properly and aren’t compatible over a converted surface — for that finish, remove the rust completely rather than converting it.

Selecting the right option

Choose pack size by job scale: 250ml suits small spot repairs, the 425g aerosol gives even coverage over irregular shapes without a brush, 1L suits larger flat panels applied by brush or roller, and 5L is sized for fleet or workshop-scale rust treatment programs.
