Gates 7401-0076 15kg Belt Tension Tester

The Gates Single Barrel (Pencil Type) Tension Tester (15kg / 30lb) is a spring-barrel gauge used to accurately measure the tension of individual or joined belts during installation and maintenance. It is rated for small V-belts and synchronous belts, and is one of two barrel testers Gates offers for servicing belt drives — it is the lighter-duty companion to the 30kg double-barrel tester.

Gates belt tension gauges ensure drives are set to the correct tension — a key factor in belt life and drive efficiency. Typical uses include:

Selecting the right option

Use the 30kg double-barrel tester for multiple (banded) V-belts and large synchronous belts; use the 15kg single-barrel (pencil type) tester for smaller individual V-belts and synchronous belts. For the most accurate reading on any belt type, the Gates 550C Sonic Tension Meter measures tension electronically without a barrel gauge. Correct tension avoids two failure modes — too loose causes slippage and belt wear, too tight overloads bearings and shortens belt and bearing life.
