The Imperial Square Drive Countersunk Decking Screw, 316 Stainless Steel is a countersunk or trim head timber screw with a square drive and ribs under the head. It is used to fix decking boards and outdoor timber.
Supplied in 316 (A4) stainless steel. The molybdenum in A4 gives better resistance to chlorides than A2 (304), so it is the usual choice near the coast, around pools and in marine and food-processing environments.
The range runs to 8 variants, covering sizes 8G-15X to 12G-11 and lengths 40 mm to 75 mm. Variants are supplied in packs of 200 to 1000, depending on size.
Stainless threads can gall (seize) when tightened under load or at speed. A smear of anti-seize on the thread and a steady tightening speed reduce the risk.

Selecting the right option
Pre-drill close to board ends and in dense hardwood to prevent splitting. Use the square drive bit size listed on the variant. Where chlorides are not a concern, the A2 (304) version costs less: Square Drive Trim Head Decking Screw Stainless Steel.
