Loctite 222 is a one-component, purple, low strength anaerobic threadlocker. It locks and seals threaded fasteners that need easy disassembly with standard hand tools.

Henkel lists it for the adjustment of set screws and for small-diameter or long-engagement fasteners. It is a thixotropic liquid that fluoresces under UV light.

Selecting the right option

Loctite 222 is the low strength grade. For medium strength see Loctite 243 Medium Strength Threadlocker or Loctite 242 Threadlocker Anaerobic Adhesive Blue 50ml; for high strength see Loctite 263 High Strength Threadlocker.

Using it

Henkel designs Loctite 222 for fasteners that need easy disassembly with standard hand tools. For bigger threads and voids, adjust the amount of product accordingly.

Cure speed depends on the materials, the gap and the temperature; the cure-speed graphs are in the Henkel data sheet.

Remove with standard hand tools. Rarely, localised heat to approximately 250 °C is needed.

Storage and handling

Store unopened in a dry location. Optimal storage is between 8 °C and 21 °C. Storage below 8 °C or above 28 °C can adversely affect the properties of the product.

Limits and safety

Not recommended for pure oxygen or oxygen-rich systems, or as a sealant for chlorine or other strong oxidising materials. Plastics can stress crack, and compatibility should be checked after aqueous washes.
