Loctite 55 Pipe Sealing Cord 150m

Loctite 55 is a white, non-curing pipe sealing cord. It is a polyamide thread coated with an inert proprietary paste, wound from the dispensing package onto the threads.

Henkel lists it for metal and plastic tapered pipe threads and fittings up to 4 inch NPT, in industrial use with aqueous and non-aqueous fluids. It suits assemblies that need immediate use and may need slight readjustment: the joint can be adjusted up to 45 degrees after tightening.

Selecting the right option

Loctite 55 is a non-curing cord, so it does not lock the thread. Using it

Wind the cord from the dispensing package onto the threads. The cord does not cure, so the joint can be adjusted up to 45 degrees after tightening.

Henkel says approvals marked regional should be confirmed with its local Technical Service Center for your application.

Storage and handling

Store unopened in a dry location. Optimal storage is between 8 °C and 21 °C. Storage below 8 °C or above 28 °C can adversely affect the properties of the product.

Limits and safety

Not recommended for pure oxygen or oxygen-rich systems, or as a sealant for chlorine or other strong oxidisers. The Henkel data sheet marks the NSF, AGA, hydrogen and other approvals as regional, so confirm them for your application. Read the safety data sheet before use.

Is Loctite 55 approved for potable water?

The data sheet lists NSF/ANSI 61 for potable water not exceeding 82 °C, and a BS 6920 potable water approval that meets the WRC and BGA KTW specifications for cold and hot water. These are regional approvals, so confirm for your application.

Can Loctite 55 be used on gas and hydrogen lines?

Henkel lists EN 751-2 class ARp with DVGW approval, Australian Gas Association certificate 3207 (Class III, 2,000 kPa) and hydrogen conformity to GASTEC QA AR-214. All are regional approvals, so confirm them for your application.
