Loctite SF 790 Chisel Paint Stripper (Gasket Remover) 510g

Loctite SF 790 (also known as Loctite 790) is a methylene chloride solvent cleaner supplied as an aerosol. It removes baked-on gaskets and gasket cements from metal, including chemical formed-in-place gaskets such as RTV silicone and anaerobic materials.

Henkel also lists it for lifting gaskets from aluminium components without scraping, removing high temperature engine paints before repair, built-up carbon deposits from interior engine and combustion surfaces, and baked-on grease and oil as a pre-cleaner before solvent washing. This is the 510 g aerosol.

Selecting the right option

Before fitting a new gasket, Henkel says to clean the surfaces with a suitable cleaner and names Loctite 7070. Using it

Hold the can upright 25 to 30 cm from the gasket area and spray. A heavier coat gives better performance.

Allow 5 to 10 minutes for the foaming action, then remove the softened gasket with a scraper or putty knife and wipe the flange clean with a rag. Repeat if necessary.

Before assembly, clean the surfaces with a suitable cleaner, for example Loctite 7070. After use, turn the can upside down and spray for 3 seconds to clear the actuator.

Storage and handling

Store unopened in a dry location, optimally between 8 °C and 21 °C. Storage below 8 °C or above 28 °C can adversely affect the properties of the product. Henkel does not state a shelf life.

Limits and safety
