The Sutton E184 is a 2 flute long series slot drill in 12 sizes from 3 to 20 mm cutting diameter. It is made from 8% cobalt high speed steel (HSS Co.8) with a TiAlN coating, has R30 helix geometry (designation N) and is made to DIN 844 L with a DIN 1835 form A plain shank (h6 tolerance). It is for long-reach slotting in soft steels and non-ferrous materials, up to 1000 N/mm².
The 2 flute geometry is designed to let the slot drill plunge into the workpiece and then cut sideways, so one tool starts and finishes a slot. The long series gives extra flute and overall length for deeper slots (a 53 mm flute and 110 mm overall length on the 12 mm size). The TiAlN coating is designed for longer tool life, and the cutting diameter has an e8 tolerance.

Using the slot drill
- Hold the endmill in a milling chuck, collet or side-lock holder that suits the shank and runs true.
- Take a light radial and axial step in deep slots and clear the chips often.
- Use cutting data suited to the material, and keep the tool clamped as short as the job allows.
- Use cutting fluid or coolant where the material and machine allow it.
