Covers & Accessories

Machinery covers and drive guards protect both equipment and personnel. Exposed rotating components — V-belt drives, chain drives, shafts, and couplings — are a significant source of entanglement injury in industrial environments. Australian Work Health and Safety regulations require that rotating components be guarded where they present a hazard, and that guards remain in place during normal operation. Belt and Chain Drive Guards

V-belt and chain drive guards enclose the driven and driving pulleys or sprockets and the belt or chain run between them, preventing contact with the rotating components during normal operation. Guards must be constructed to prevent a person's fingers or clothing from reaching the moving parts, comply with the relevant machine guarding standard (AS 4024 series in Australia), and be removable for maintenance while being secure during operation. Sheet metal fabricated guards and moulded plastic guards are both in common use depending on the application and environment.

Shaft Covers and Coupling Guards

Exposed shaft ends and flexible couplings require guarding where they are accessible to personnel during operation. Coupling guards enclose the coupling body and both shaft ends at the connection, preventing contact with the rotating shaft and coupling components. Standard split-design guards allow installation and removal without disconnecting the coupling.

Motor and Equipment Covers

Protective covers for motors, gearboxes, and other equipment protect against environmental contamination — particularly in outdoor installations, wash-down environments, and dusty production areas. Weather-resistant covers extend equipment life by reducing moisture ingress, UV exposure, and contamination of cooling fins and ventilation openings.

Machine accessories including mounting brackets, cover fixings, and ancillary components are stocked for maintenance and equipment installation tasks.

Guarding Compliance

Machine guarding in Australian workplaces is governed by AS 4024 (Safety of Machinery) and the Work Health and Safety Regulations. Guards must be designed and constructed so they cannot be easily defeated, provide access for maintenance without requiring complete removal during operation, and are robust enough to withstand the working environment. Where original equipment guards have been lost or damaged, replacement or fabrication of compliant guards is a WHS obligation rather than a discretionary improvement.
