Types of M8 Screws

M8 stainless steel screws — A2-70 (304 stainless) and A4-80 (316 stainless) — are the standard for corrosive, marine, food-processing, pharmaceutical, and outdoor applications. Stainless socket cap screws are property class A2-70 or A4-70 — lower than Class 12.9 but entirely appropriate for most corrosive-environment applications. For set screws, select point style based on shaft: dog-point for positioning on a flat; cup-point for general-purpose shaft locking; cone-point for a permanent, high-torque lock on a soft shaft; flat-point for soft or hollow shafts. Use the correct 6 mm hex key — an worn or undersized key at Class 12.9 tightening torques will damage the socket. Always verify tightening torque from the fastener manufacturer's data.
