Metric Drill Set Size Ranges

• 1–10 mm (0.5 mm increments): A 19-piece set covering fine-pitch fastener tapping and clearance requirements — the most commonly used range in metal fabrication and maintenance.
• 1–13 mm (1 mm increments): 13-piece general-purpose set in 1 mm steps — fast size selection for the most common hole sizes encountered in workshop drilling.
• 1–6 mm precision sets: Fine-increment sets for instrumentation, electronics, PCB drilling and small tapping pilots in M2–M5 fastener ranges.
• 1–25 mm complete sets: Full-range maintenance and toolroom sets in 1 mm increments — replaces multiple smaller sets with a single comprehensive kit.
• Half-size (0.5 mm increment) sets: More precise diameter control for tapping pilots, reaming stock removal, and close-tolerance fit drilling across the common engineering size range.

Grade and Quality Considerations

• HSS M2 grade: Standard general-purpose grade suitable for mild steel, stainless (with cutting fluid), aluminium, brass, copper and engineering plastics.
• HSS-Co M35/M42: 5% and 8% cobalt content for drilling stainless, duplex, Inconel and hardened alloy steels where M2 dulls rapidly.
• Ground vs rolled flute: Ground-flute drills provide tighter diameter tolerance and smoother surface finish — required for precision work; rolled flute suits general production.
• Drill case quality: Indexed metal or high-quality plastic cases protect cutting edges and speed up size selection — critical for high-volume production drilling environments.
