Gates Polyflex JB Joined Belts
The Polyflex JB (Joined Belt) range comprises multiple Polyflex V-belts physically joined into a single multi-rib belt unit — increasing the power capacity of a Polyflex drive without going to a wider single belt or installing multiple separate belts. AIMS Industrial supplies the Gates Polyflex JB range for industrial drives where higher power capacity is needed in a compact installation.
How JB belts differ from single Polyflex
A Polyflex JB belt is functionally several Polyflex belts running in parallel, but joined at the top and bottom into a single belt unit. The advantages over running multiple separate belts: matched length and tension across all ribs (since they're physically the same belt), better load sharing under shock or impact, and simplified installation and replacement (one belt, not three or four). The advantages over a single wider belt: better flexibility around pulleys, ability to run smaller pulley diameters, and the same superior temperature/speed/abrasion characteristics of the Polyflex polyurethane construction.
Where JB belts earn their place
- Higher-power compact drives — pumping equipment, small machine tools, and industrial drives where a single Polyflex isn't enough
- Drives subject to shock loading — the joined construction handles impact loads better than multiple separate belts
- Replacement of multi-belt rubber V-belt drives — JB Polyflex can replace 2-, 3-, or 4-belt rubber drives where the application benefits from polyurethane construction
- OEM equipment — common in industrial equipment where space and power requirements both push toward compact, high-performance drives
Belt designation
Polyflex JB belts are designated by base profile, joined-belt count, and length. A typical designation might be 7M-1180-2JB, indicating a 7M profile, 1180mm pitch length, with 2 belts joined. Matching the designation to the drive specification is essential — substituting different rib counts or lengths means re-engineering the drive.
Pulley compatibility
Polyflex JB belts require pulleys with matching multi-groove geometry — single-groove pulleys won't work, and the groove pitch on the pulley must match the rib pitch on the JB belt. When specifying a JB drive, both the belt and the pulleys need to be from the matching range; mixing brands or substituting non-matching pulleys causes premature belt failure.
Why Gates
The Polyflex JB range is a Gates engineered product — the polyurethane formulation, tensile cord construction, and joined-belt manufacturing process are proprietary and have been refined over decades of industrial application. For high-performance compact drives, Gates Polyflex JB is the established choice.
