TIG Welding Torches for Australian Trade and Industrial Welding

TIG welding torches are the precision welding torches used for GTAW (Gas Tungsten Arc Welding) — the welding process that produces the cleanest, highest-quality welds achievable in fabrication, particularly for stainless steel, aluminium, and thin material work. The torch handles the tungsten electrode, shielding gas delivery, and arc striking; the welder controls amperage and wire feed. For Australian fabricators, food-equipment manufacturers, and aerospace welders, the right TIG torch matched to the welder and the work is essential. AIMS Industrial supplies TIG torches from Bossweld and approved welding equipment brands.

The TIG torch types we stock

  • Air-cooled TIG torches — natural air convection cools the torch; suit lower amperage applications (up to ~200A)
  • Water-cooled TIG torches — coolant circulation through the torch handles higher amperage (up to 500A+)
  • Replacement torch heads and necks — for replacing damaged or worn torch fronts without replacing the entire torch
  • Torch leads and replacement cables — flexible cables and water lines for replacement
  • Foot pedal amperage controls — for controlling welding amperage during the weld
  • Hand amperage controls — fingertip amperage controls on the torch handle

Air-cooled versus water-cooled — when to choose which

  • Air-cooled torches — simpler setup, no water cooler needed, less maintenance, lower cost; suit occasional and low-amperage work
  • Water-cooled torches — handle higher amperage continuously, smaller torch handle for the same capacity, better for sustained production work

For workshops doing TIG up to 200A on intermittent work, air-cooled is fine. For sustained TIG work above 150A, water-cooled significantly extends torch life and reduces operator fatigue (the smaller, lighter torch is more comfortable to manipulate during long welds).

Common TIG torch types and codes

  • WP-9 (air-cooled, 125A) — small lightweight torch for thin material and detail work
  • WP-17 (air-cooled, 150A) — the everyday workshop torch
  • WP-26 (air-cooled, 200A) — heavier-duty air-cooled torch
  • WP-18 (water-cooled, 350A) — workhorse water-cooled torch for production work
  • WP-20 (water-cooled, 250A) — compact water-cooled torch

Replacement torches must match the welder's connector type and (for water-cooled) the cooler's connections. Different welder brands use different connector standards — confirm compatibility before sourcing.

Where TIG welding earns its place

  • Stainless steel fabrication — food-grade tanks, sanitary pipework, decorative and structural stainless
  • Aluminium welding — boat building, automotive, food-grade aluminium structures
  • Thin material welding — sheet metal where MIG would burn through
  • Aerospace and high-precision work — where weld quality is the priority over speed
  • Pipe welding (root passes) — TIG root with stick or MIG fill is common for pipe welding
  • Automotive and motorcycle fabrication — exhaust, frames, and decorative welding

Brands stocked at AIMS

Bossweld covers the TIG torch range with strong product depth across air-cooled and water-cooled types. Other approved welding equipment brands fill specific roles. For specific brand-OEM torches (Lincoln, Miller, ESAB compatible), sourcing through our distribution channels covers most options.

Consumables and accessories

TIG torches need a regular supply of tungsten electrodes, ceramic cups, gas lenses, collet bodies, and back caps. See our TIG welding consumables range for the full consumable lineup. Stock the consumables that match your torch type — consumables are torch-specific.

Companion ranges at AIMS

TIG torches sit alongside our broader TIG welding range — see TIG welding consumables, TIG welding accessories, TIG welding rods, and TIG torch holders for the related products.
