Choosing a cut-off wheel
Match the wheel to the material first: steel, stainless steel, aluminium, stone or rail each have wheels listed for them. Then match the machine, as there are wheels for angle grinders, stationary chop saws, high speed portable saws and engine-driven machines. Check the diameter and bore against your grinder or saw and its guard. Thinner wheels remove less material, while thicker wheels are sturdier on longer or tougher cuts. Cut-off wheels are made for cutting, so do not use one for grinding unless the listing says it is a combined wheel. Always check the data sheet for the maximum operating speed, material suitability and handling and storage requirements.

Cut-Off Wheels FAQs
Can I use a cut-off wheel for grinding?
Not unless the listing says it is made for both. Cut-off wheels are designed for cutting, and side loading can damage them. The Pferd Duodisc is listed as a combined cut-off and grind wheel, so check each listing and its data sheet.
Which cut-off wheel should I use for stainless steel?
Look for wheels listed for stainless steel or Inox. Pferd, Flexovit, Klingspor and Dymaxion all list wheels for stainless, including ultra thin options. Check the data sheet to confirm it suits your material and machine.
What size cut-off wheel do I need?
Match the wheel diameter and bore to your grinder or saw and its guard. The size is shown in each listing, from small 50mm wheels to 406mm rail wheels. Call (02) 9773 0122 if you are not sure and we'll help.
