Choosing a diamond blade

Start with the material. A continuous rim blade gives the cleanest cut and suits tile, porcelain and stoneware, where chipping matters. Segmented blades cut faster in concrete and masonry, and turbo blades sit in between for a fast cut with a smoother finish. Then match the size and bore to your tool: 115mm and 125mm blades suit angle grinders, and 350mm and 400mm blades suit larger saws.

Use the blade at the right speed and with the right guard, and let the blade do the cutting. Check whether the blade is for dry or wet cutting, as some are made for one or the other.

Always check the data sheet. Confirm the maximum speed, bore size, cutting method and material for the blade, and wear eye, hearing and respiratory protection. Cutting concrete and stone produces hazardous dust.

Diamond blade FAQs

What is the difference between continuous rim, turbo and segmented blades?

Continuous rim blades have an unbroken edge for clean cuts in tile and porcelain. Segmented blades have gaps between the segments and cut faster in concrete and masonry. Turbo blades have a serrated rim that gives a fast cut with a smoother finish.

Which blade is best for porcelain tile?

A continuous rim blade made for porcelain, such as the Klingspor DT900FP or DT900FL with slots. Check the data sheet for wet or dry use.

Which blade is best for concrete?

Segmented or turbo blades. Klingspor lists a turbo edge blade (DT900UT) and a segmented edge blade (DT600U) for concrete, and larger 350mm blades are also available.

What size blade do I need?

Match the blade diameter and bore to your tool. We list 115mm and 125mm blades for angle grinders and 350mm and 400mm blades for larger saws.
