Buy Hook Spanners Online in Australia
A hook spanner (also called a C-spanner) turns round nuts that have notches cut into their edge instead of hex flats. The hooked jaw sits in a notch and turns the nut. AIMS Industrial lists 4 hook spanner products from Stahlwille, Trax and Super, covering nut diameters from 3/4 inch (about 19 mm) up to 165 mm. For more on choosing spanner types, see our types of spanners guide.

Choosing a hook spanner
Measure the outside diameter of the notched nut and pick the size range that covers it. Trax describes its hook spanners as suited to ring nuts and C-nuts on bearings, lathe chucks and machinery components, and says adjustable hook spanners suit a varied range of ring nut sizes. A spanner that does not match the nut diameter and notch will damage the notches, which makes the nut harder to grip in future.
Hook spanners are not made for heavy torque. If the hook slips out of the notch it can damage the nut or injure the operator, so check the nut manufacturer's tightening method for higher torque values.
Always check the data sheet. Confirm the size range and the nut design before you order, and call us if you are not sure which spanner suits the job.

Hook spanner FAQs
What is a hook spanner used for?
It turns round nuts that have notches around the edge instead of hex flats, such as ring nuts and C-nuts on bearings, lathe chucks and machinery components. The hooked jaw engages a notch.
What is the difference between a hook spanner and a pin spanner?
A hook spanner has a curved hook that engages a notch cut into the edge of the nut. A pin spanner has pins that engage holes drilled in the nut face. Choose the type that matches how the nut is designed to be turned.
What size hook spanner do I need?
Measure the outside diameter of the nut and pick the size range that covers it. We list metric ranges from 20 to 165 mm and inch ranges from 3/4 to 6 1/4 inch.
What happens if I use the wrong size?
A spanner that does not match the nut diameter and notch can damage the notches, which makes the nut harder to grip in future. Match the spanner to the nut before applying force.
Can I use a hook spanner for high torque?
No. Hook spanners are not made for heavy torque, and a hook that slips out of the notch can damage the nut or injure the operator. Check the manufacturer's tightening method for the nut.
Do you sell hook spanner sets?
Yes. We list the Trax ARX-HWS4 set of four hook spanners. Call us on (02) 9773 0122 if you need a different combination.
