Choosing a keyed padlock
Start with where the padlock will live. Brass resists corrosion and suits general outdoor use. Covered and Weather Tough models are listed for weather exposure, stainless steel models suit wet and corrosive areas, and boron and boron carbide shackles are listed for models where cut resistance matters. Then choose the body size and shackle length for what you are locking. A long shackle reaches through a thick hasp or a chain, and a shrouded or hidden shackle limits access to the shackle itself.
Then choose the keying. Keyed alike packs put one key on several locks, which suits a site that wants one key for a set of gates or cabinets. Individual locks each have their own key. Several listings give three dimensions, such as 8 x 62 x 23mm, so check the data sheet for what each figure means before you match a padlock to a hasp or chain.
Always check the data sheet. Confirm the body size, shackle diameter and clearance, and material before you order.

Keyed padlock FAQs
What is the difference between keyed alike and keyed different?
Keyed different padlocks each open with their own key. Keyed alike padlocks share a key, so one key opens every padlock in the set. Several packs here, such as the 2 pack and 4 pack diamond brass padlocks, are listed as keyed alike.
Which keyed padlock is best outdoors?
Look at the Weather Tough models, the stainless steel and solid brass padlocks, and the models with boron or boron carbide shackles. Check each listing for body and shackle material, and call us if you are unsure for a marine or chemical area.
How do I match a padlock to a hasp or chain?
Check the shackle diameter and the clearance between the shackle and body against the hasp hole or chain link. Several listings give three dimensions, such as 8 x 62 x 23mm, so confirm on the data sheet what each figure means. See our hasps.
Can a keyed padlock be used for lockout?
We recommend using a safety padlock for lockout, so that it is clear which locks mean that someone is working on isolated equipment. See our safety lockout padlocks.
Do you sell padlocks in packs?
Yes. Boxes of 4 and keyed alike packs of 2 and 4 are listed across the diamond brass and laminated steel ranges.
