Choosing Cable Management Products

Ties and clamps: choose a tie length that goes around the bundle with room to spare, and don't over-tighten it, because a tight tie can cut into the cable insulation. Clamps and tie mounts keep a run fixed to a panel or chassis so it doesn't rub or hang.

Protection: split conduit goes over a cable run to guard against abrasion and can be fitted without disconnecting the cable. Heat shrink covers individual joints and terminals.

Quick connectors: Anderson-style connectors are mirrored, so any two of the same rating plug together. Match the rating to your cable size and the current your system draws, and fit the matching protective cover to keep dirt and moisture off the terminals.

Always check the data sheet: material, temperature range and current rating differ between products. Check the product page or data sheet, particularly for quick connectors, before you buy.

People Also Ask — Wire & Cable Management

What size cable tie do I need?

Choose a tie long enough to wrap around the whole bundle and feed through the head with some length to spare. Champion CCT nylon cable ties are available from 100 mm to 380 mm, so you can match the length to the bundle.

What happens if I over-tighten a cable tie?

It can cut into the cable insulation and damage the cable it is meant to protect. Pull the tie snug, not as tight as you can.

What is split conduit used for?

Split conduit wraps around a cable or bundle to protect it from rubbing and abrasion. Because it is split along its length, it can be fitted over an existing run without disconnecting the cable. AIMS stocks the Champion CR1 in four sizes covering 7.4 to 19.5 mm.

What are cable tie mounts for?

A tie mount gives a cable tie a fixed anchor point so a cable run stays in place on a panel or surface. Champion self-adhesive mounts stick on, and the Champion CA124 and GJ Works GKA80 kits give you a mix of clamps and mounts.

What are Anderson-style quick connectors?

They are plug-together connectors for high-current battery and power connections. They are mirrored, so any two of the same rating join without separate male and female halves. The Hansa Quick Connector comes in 50, 175 and 350 amp versions with matching protective covers. Match the rating to your cable size and the current your system draws, and check the product data sheet before ordering.
