14 in (350 mm) NBR Wafer Butterfly Valve, Gear-Op | VWX35

This AAP NBR wafer butterfly valve has a cast iron body, a nickel plated ductile iron disc, an NBR seat and a gear operator. It is supplied in 5 sizes from 14 in (350 mm) to 24 in (600 mm).

A butterfly valve turns a disc on a central stem through a quarter turn: with the disc in line with the flow the valve is open, and turned across the flow it is closed. The resilient seat is the soft liner the disc seals against. AAP says its resilient seat butterfly valves are compact, give bubble tight shut-off and have good regulating capabilities, and lists them for HVAC, petrochemical, pulp and paper, water and wastewater treatment, brewing, food processing, mining, textile and general industry (manufacturer-stated).

AAP says the wafer body suits most international flanges, including AS 2129, BS 10, ANSI, DIN and JIS, in sizes 50 mm to 300 mm (manufacturer-stated). It is made for inline service and relies on a flange on each side of the valve to hold it in the pipeline. AAP states that compatibility for 50 mm to 300 mm only, so check the hole pattern of your 350 mm to 600 mm flanges against the bolt dimensions in the tables.

AAP does not state a working pressure for its wafer butterfly valves in the catalogue, although it gives operating torque at PN16. Ask AIMS to confirm the pressure rating for your job before you order.

The seat is NBR (nitrile). AAP gives NBR a temperature of 100 degrees C, says it is generally resistant to many hydrocarbons, fats, oils, greases and hydraulic fluids and is generally affected or attacked by ozone, ketones, esters, aldehydes and chlorinated and nitro hydrocarbons (all manufacturer-stated). The seat temperature is a material figure, not a valve rating, so ask AIMS for the pressure and temperature rating if the valve will run hot.

AAP supplies the 14 in to 24 in sizes with a gear operator as standard (manufacturer-stated). A gear operator gives finer control than a lever, because AAP says levers and notch plates only have 10 position settings.

AAP lists its Watermark approval against the 50 mm to 300 mm EPDM version only, so it does not cover this valve. If you need a drinking water approval, ask AIMS about the EPDM valve and for the current certificate.

AAP gives one operating torque per size at PN16 and does not say which seat material it applies to, so allow a margin when you size an actuator.

Selecting the right option

Choose the size to match your pipe, and choose wafer or lugged to suit how the valve will be mounted. Check the seat material against your fluid and temperature using the seat material guide on this page. These sizes come with a gear operator, so check the clearance around the operator and handwheel in your pipework.
